Concrete & Patio FAQ

What you need to know about concrete work

Concrete reaches about 70% strength within 7 days and full strength at 28 days. You can walk on new concrete after 24-48 hours, but we recommend waiting 7 days before placing furniture and 30 days before parking vehicles on driveways.

Stamped concrete is patterned and colored to resemble brick, stone, slate, or other materials. It costs 30-50% less than natural stone while offering similar aesthetics. It is durable and low-maintenance, making it an excellent value for patios and walkways.

Patios and walkways typically require 4 inches of concrete. Residential driveways need 4-5 inches. Heavy vehicle areas or commercial applications may require 5-6 inches. We also install proper gravel base and reinforcement for long-term durability.

All concrete will eventually develop some cracking—it is natural. However, proper installation minimizes issues: we use control joints to direct where cracks occur, adequate thickness, proper curing, and quality concrete mix. Hairline cracks are cosmetic and do not affect structural integrity.

Basic broom-finish concrete runs $8-12 per square foot installed. Stamped and colored concrete ranges from $12-20 per square foot. A typical 300 sq ft patio costs $2,400-6,000 depending on finish and complexity. We provide free estimates.

Spring and fall offer ideal conditions in Pittsburgh—temperatures between 50-75°F. We can pour in summer with proper precautions, but avoid freezing temperatures. Concrete poured in optimal conditions cures stronger and lasts longer.
